�� St. Francis Episcopal Church Fall Bazaar – November 8

It’s that time of year again! Stop by St. Francis Episcopal Church for their annual Fall Bazaar on November 8 from 9am–2pm. You’ll find everything from arts and crafts vendors to a white elephant yard sale full of hidden treasures. Don’t miss the delicious eats — from chicken salad sandwiches and sausage on a bun to hot and spicy pickles and homemade pies.

Interested in setting up a booth? Spaces (12x12) are just $30, and no pre-registration is required! Donations for the yard sale are also being accepted. For more info, call Cissy Napper at 318-548-4376. All proceeds go to support local charities.

�� S’mores on the Shores – November 8

Bring your blankets and chairs for a cozy evening under the stars at S’mores on the Shores! Join the community on Saturday, November 8 from 5–7pm at East End Beach for campfires, live music, and all the makings for your favorite gooey treat. Sponsored by the Town of Dauphin Island, this family-friendly event is free and open to all.

�� Island-Wide Yard Sale – November 8

Get ready to treasure hunt across the island! The Island-Wide Yard Sale, sponsored by the St. Edmund Altar Society, returns on Saturday, November 8. Pick up a list of participating addresses from St. Edmund Hall starting at 8am on the day of the event.

To be included on the list, grab an application from the Welcome Center and submit it with a $5 donation (to cover printing costs) by October 31 at 4pm. No late entries will be accepted — so sign up early and get ready for a fun day of shopping, selling, and connecting with neighbors.

�� Veterans Day Ceremony – November 11

Join the Dauphin Island Veterans Association (DIVA) on Tuesday, November 11 at 11am at Water Tower Plaza to honor all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This annual ceremony recognizes the courage, patriotism, and sacrifice of our veterans. This year, two names will be added to the Memorial Walls: William (Bill) Dubey (U.S. Marine Corps) and J. Stephen Foster (U.S. Merchant Marines).

�� Hollidazzle – November 15

Get into the holiday spirit at Hollidazzle, hosted by Arts of Dauphin Island (ADI) on November 15 at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Shelby Hall. This beloved annual fundraiser celebrates local creativity with a festive evening of art, music, and island cheer. Tickets are now on sale at the ADI Gallery or online at artsofdauphinisland.org.

Before the big event, be sure to stop by ADI’s Outdoor Market (also on November 15 from 9am–3pm) to shop local art, handmade goods, and one-of-a-kind coastal gifts — perfect for early holiday shopping! Artists and crafters interested in joining can contact Dierdre Sanders at 442-465-8662 (tables are $15, tents are $25).

ADI, located at 1101 Bienville Boulevard, showcases original works from regional artists — from pottery and paintings to woodworking, jewelry, and photography. The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from 10am–4pm. �� Sunset Concert at Fort Gaines — October 12

The town-sponsored Sunset Concerts close out the season with a crowd favorite: Roman Street! �� The show begins at 4:30 PM inside historic Fort Gaines. Admission is $5 (free for kids 12 & under). Pack your chairs or blankets and settle in for live music against a backdrop of golden skies. The evening ends with the traditional conch blowing led by “King Conch & The Fritters.”

�� Bird Banding — October 13–18

Fall migration is in full swing, and Dauphin Island is one of the best spots on the Gulf Coast to see it. Bird banding offers a rare chance to watch ornithologists capture, study, and release migratory birds up close. A must for birders and families who love nature.

�� September 4 – Corks for a Cause

Kick off the month with an evening of fine wine, hors d’oeuvres, live music, and stunning sunset views at The Carriage. Corks for a Cause supports free art classes for local children in preschool through fifth grade. Tickets are $40 and include food by Executive Chef Suzanne Phillips, desserts, and live professional music. Sip and support a wonderful cause!

�� September 6 – Car & Craft Show

Head to Cadillac Square for the 10th Annual Dauphin Island Car & Craft Show from 10 AM to 3 PM. Browse classic cars, shop handmade crafts, and grab a bite from local food trucks like Guy’s Grill, Twist Sushi, and Real Fruit Creamery. Live music from The Southern Fire Band will keep the energy high, while kids enjoy the bounce house and face painting. Don’t forget to register your car early for prizes and trophies!

�� September 6 – Hurricane 5K Run

Start your morning with the annual Hurricane 5K, celebrating Dauphin Island’s recovery from Hurricane Frederic in 1979. One of the island’s most anticipated annual events! The 8th Annual Massacre Island Festival at Historic Fort Gaines brings history to life with pirate reenactments, cannon firings, and battles on the bay. Inspired by the island’s history dating back to 1711, this event is packed with family fun, costumes, and maybe even some pirate treasure.

�� September 20 – Coastal Cleanup

Make a difference by joining volunteers across the island for the annual Coastal Cleanup from 8 AM to Noon. This statewide effort helps protect the beaches and waterways that make Dauphin Island so special.

The 35th annual Miss DI Christmas Pageant kicks off the holiday festivities at 7 PM at the Community Center. This year brings exciting additions, including a Teeny Miss DI category (ages 2-4) and the Spirit of DI award open to all participants. Cheer on the contestants as they showcase their holiday cheer and island pride.

December 7: Christmas Parade, Market, and Lights of DI

The fun continues on Saturday with the Christmas Market and Parade. The parade starts at 11 AM at Cadillac Square—don’t forget to arrive early if you want to join! Tickets are $20 and available on EventBrite until October 25. After the ride, head to Dority's for the awards ceremony, raffle drawings, dancing, and live music by the Coastline band. ($5 admission for non-participants.)

We’re excited to share that one of our beloved vacation rentals, "Weekend Away," has been featured on Beachfront Bargain Hunt Renovation (Season 5, Episode 5)! This episode follows Shane and Rachael Sigsbee as they embark on an incredible journey to find and renovate the perfect coastal retreat on Dauphin Island, AL.

A Personal Connection to Dauphin Island

Rachael, who grew up visiting Dauphin Island with her family, introduced Shane to this charming coastal town when they started dating. With their kids loving the beach life—building sandcastles, spotting dolphins, and going fishing—the couple decided it was time to invest in their very own family getaway on the island. Living in Las Vegas, the Sigsbees wanted a quiet, private spot on the east side of the island with water views, tucked among the trees.

Finding "Weekend Away"

With the help of local real estate agent Gene Fox, Shane and Rachael set their sights on finding the "worst house on the street"—a home with potential that needed a special touch. After some searching, they selected a property that would eventually become "Weekend Away"—a hidden gem that required a full renovation to bring it back to life.

A Complete Transformation

The renovation process was truly a family affair. Rachael’s dad, Larry Crawley, brought his expertise as one of the contractors, adding creativity, always thinking outside the box. He even sourced a beautiful old beam from a marina after Hurricane Sally, giving the home a unique, coastal history. Shannon Taylor, the other contractor, played a key role in bringing the vision to life.

The home underwent a complete overhaul, including:

• New floors

• Full kitchen and bathroom renovations

• Shiplap walls and ceilings

• Vaulted ceilings with new windows

• Custom window seats

• New doors and stairs

• A brand-new deck for family hangouts

1. The Alabama Aquarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab

This is our go to spot when everyone needs a little air conditioning! This state of the art aquarium dives into the four key habitats of coastal Alabama. With so many interactive exhibits, your family is sure to have an amazing time. Whether it’s navigating the touch screen exhibits or trying to touch the stingrays and nerf sharks in the 7,000-gallon touch tank, you will be constantly entertained and might learn something too. Afterwards, make sure to stop by the gift shop as well as get yourself an ice cream cone!
